Before
she was 2 years old, she lost her sight and hearing because of a fever.
By 1887 Helen Keller was a child living in rage and frustration, until
Anne Sullivan was encouraged by Alexander Graham Bell to undertake teaching
her. Helen Keller graduated from Radcliffe in 1904, and went on to write
more than a dozen books, became active in political causes of the day (some
she would later regret - but she was influenced by the academic notions
of her era). Her greatest contribution was her work toward improving the
lives of countless handicapped people. She died in 1968.
